Honkarakenne Group's historical short film awarded in the US

History of Honka, a documentary short film about Honkarakenne Group's interesting history, received awards in two categories at the The Aurora Awards festival in the United States.

The film, which depicts Honka's growth from humble beginnings into the leading log house manufacturer in the world, received the festival's highest award, Platinum Best of Show, in the Corporate Image category. History of Honka also received the Gold Award in the Documentary - Historical category.

The film was made by Pohjantähti-Elokuva Oy which specialises in advertising and corporate films, and directed by Pami Teirikari who has won several domestic and international awards. The film was written by Anne-Maarit Sepling, edited by Altti Sjögren and produced by Pepe Teirikari.

"The film beautifully highlights Honka's role as an innovator and pioneer of industrial log production," says Brand Communications Manager Anne-Maarit Sepling, pleasantly surprised by the award.

Honka's varied history makes a fascinating story. Five brothers start a company that in five decades grows into the world leader in log house manufacture. The documentary features, e.g., HM Queen Elizabeth II and Finland’s President Kekkonen, both of whom play special roles in the company's past.

"Currently we operate in over 30 countries, with the same Honka brand that has its roots deep in Finnish nature. The genuine wood is an ecological building material that is both traditional and modern. It is increasingly valued all over the world by people willing to invest in well-being not just for themselves but also the environment," says Sepling.

Director Pami Teirikari notes that History of Honka is also a documentary about the progress of Finnish society.

"A lot has happened over the past fifty years. Honka's past mirrors the development of an agrarian developing country into a modern industrialized society."

A Finnish version of the documentary called "Hongan 50 vuosirengasta", published at Honka's 50th anniversary celebrations last summer.  The film is also available in English, German, French, Japanese and Russian.
