Mullen Residence

This second home nestled in the woods of Hayward, Wisconsin along the Birkebeiner trail serves as the ideal log home getaway for the Mullen family. An active cross- country skiing family, they now own a little piece of heaven along the trail of North America's largest cross-country ski race. The Honka home was designed specifically for the Mullen's to enjoy during their weekend getaways into the woods.

A special detail on this Honka home is the exquisite log railing which is a custom feature, an idea taken from one of Honka's Russian projects. The decks, balconies and porches on the home provide ample additional living space and a place to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.

The model is a three level plan with a walk- out basement. The lowest level houses a family room, sauna, and wax area for the skis. The main level has an exquisite great room designed for entertaining and enjoying evenings at home with family and friends. Since this is the Mullen's second home, oversized master bedrooms and closets are not necessary, as they wanted to place greater emphasis in the living areas where they will spend most of their time with friends. In addition to the great room, the kitchen, dining room, bedroom and full bath are all located on the main floor. Upstairs is a large loft area, which serves currently as another bedroom. All in all, for the Mullen's this is the ideal vacation home, which they intend to pass down from generation to generation.
